EAST MILLINOCKET
JOY ELIZABETH (HUNTER) COON

Joy Elizabeth (Hunter) Coon, 53, passed away May 21, 2003, at Millinocket Regional Hospital, after a long illness.

She was born in Millinocket on August 3, 1949, the daughter of Lawrence and Pearle (Worcester) Hunter.

Joy was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a graduate of Schenck High School. She was employed by Great Northern Paper Company for many years, and had the distinction of being the first female papermaker in the nation. She was a member of PACE Locals 12, 24, 37, and 152.

Joy is survived by:

She was predeceased by her mother, Pearle.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. ROMUS J. PASQUINE

Romus J. Pasquine, 87, went to be with the Lord May 20, 2003.

Romus was born in Millinocket on April 2, 1916, the son of Nunzi and Virginia (Dinenna) Pasquine.

Romus was a lifelong resident of Millinocket, graduating from Stearns High School class of 1934. Following graduation, he joined the CCC’s, which was at that time involved in building the state road to Baxter State Park.

He later joined the U.S. Army and fought proudly through four major campaigns during World War II.

After his enlistment,  Romus was employed by Great Northern Paper Company for 32 years, retiring in 1979.

He enjoyed hosting family reunions, gardening, and his family vacations at Old Orchard Beach, a 32-year tradition that still continues. Romus had a warm and gentle personality. Anyone having a bad day could talk to him and walk away feeling better.

He was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 680. He was also a member of Francis E. Elliott Post No. 4154 V.F.W.
