To The Editor,
The Council meeting of 2/13/02 had quite a few people in attendance. One of the gentlemen who is here to try and make the mill sellable went to the podium and told the council that they had to cut taxes.
Instead of making our Chief of Police a working Chief and allowing one of the day officers on night shift, they chose to hire a retired police officer to fill the position. Great cut!
What is it these people don’t understand? In case you’d like to know who voted against hiring anyone to replace this position: Matt Polstein, Gail Fanjoy, Avern Danforth. All the others felt we needed to fill the position.
Next the chairman and one of the council members attacked me verbally because I dared to ask the following: I understand that Great Northern Barn had three buyers and as far as I know, MAGIC stopped it. Why can’t I ask a question?
The following are a few of the things they wanted to put in: theatre, dinner theatre, massive convention center, restaurant, to name a few.
Nex Councilwoman Fanjoy was not allowed to discuss the police position further as the Chairman would not allow any more discussion.
The Chairman then went on a tirade about the Katahdin Timed editorial. If he has a problem, take it up in private. We have enough problems in this community without the Chairman’s tirades.
Why not look at where the school intends on cutting their budgets, books and supplies. If I could have my choice, a business manager, whom you never see, would be gone. A princiipal at the Junior High and his secretary would also be gone, as we are overstocked with administration.
If parents allow the school board to cut books and supplies, then you deserve exactly what you get. The school is very famous to bring in their scare tactics. Hopefully you don’t fall for it this time.
