During the long period of Revenue Shortfalls due to non payment of taxes from a major taxpayer it became necessary for the East Millinocket Board of Selectman to reduce services. Some work hours were reduced in different departments and some services were eliminated completely in others in order to deal with this shortfall. I commend the board for making those hard but necessary reductions. Most recently receiving the back taxes due the board has reinstated a few of these cuts. Although I don't believe we should return to spending as usual i do think that the Board should reverse thier decision and reinstate the Town Nurses position. For the attendance at immunization clinics, those she serviced weekly in the town library, visiting of all seniors citizens and those not able to get out and looking out for the welfare of all those who are brought to her attention is a valuable service we must supply our citizens. I urge the Board to weigh the benefits against the cost and in the interest of the publics welfare reinstate this position. Bill Brunette |
